 Purpose

Gain an understanding and working knowledge of all Australian legislation that applies to the food industry. The course includes recent changes to country of origin labelling (the requirements of the Australian Competition and Consumer Act 2010 Part 5.3 and the new Country of Origin Food Labelling Standard 2016).


 Course Outline

This course covers the following topics:

  1. Understanding the food industry Standards
  2. Who is responsible for enforcement of this legislation in your State
  3. The Food Standards Code - Chapters 1 -4
  4. Comprehensive coverage of labelling laws, processing, product category and Food Safety Standard requirements
  5. Competition and Consumer Act - applicable to food
  6. Other relevant standards such as weights and measures

 Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, participants will obtain the knowledge on how to:

  1. Understand the role of regulatory authorities in the interpretation & enforcement of food related legislation
  2. Understand the food legislative requirements
  3. Understand the food legislative labelling requirements as applies to packaged and unpackaged food products and the ability to review your labels to meet these requirements.
