 Purpose

This course covers the following topics:

  3. Health surveillance for hazardous substances
  4. Occupational stress and infectious diseases
  5. Principles of ergonomics
  6. Workstation design and anthropometrics
  7. Biomechanics of lifting, pushing and pulling
  8. Musculoskeletal disorders
  9. Manual handling injury/illness causation
  10. Design related problems and work fatalities
  11. Product lifecycle
  12. Principles and procedures for design safety
  13. Hazard identification and risk assessment tools
  14. Applying risk assessments utilising case studies

 Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Assess the degree of match between people and their activities, equipment, environment and systems
  2. Design, implement and enhance ergonomic interventions
  3. Identify potential health hazards in features of the workplace or working environment
  4. Analyse the risks of worker exposure to potentially harmful agents and factors
  5. Design, monitor and evaluate risk control strategies and advise on implementation
  6. Advise on the OHS requirements of the design process
  7. Develop a systematic hazard identification and OHS risk evaluation system for safe design
  8. Advise on principles of OHS risk control
  9. Advise on consultation processes between people involved in the life cycle of the designed product
  10. Advise on contractual arrangements and procurement systems to minimise OHS risk
